Black Ops 6 players are demanding that Treyarch increase the damage value of headshots in Multiplayer, as they feel that they are not being rewarded enough for taking accurate headshots in matches. Each Call of Duty subseries is known to have its own characteristics and nuances, even though they are part of the same franchise. Infinity Ward tends to go the realism route, while the games developed by Treyarch have an arcade quality that makes them appear unique in the eyes of Call of Duty players.
Therefore, headshots taken in the Black Ops series, often do not provide a realistic amount of bonus damage. And this tradition continues in the series, with the latest Black Ops title, Black Ops 6, being no different. The damage profiles of many weapons in the game, especially SMGs and Assault Rifles, make it clear that landing a headshot only gives players around two to five points of extra damage compared to damage to the chest or limbs. Even though there is an additional Multiplier for consecutive headshots, it is not much different from chest shots, only using one less bullet.
Why Players Find Headshots Underpowered
This makes players nervous, as the small difference makes players like “nothing_in” on Reddit ask, “What’s the point” of taking headshots? Many other fans responded with several replies, asking for a buff to the headshot multiplier.
“Why doesn’t actually shooting people in the head cause significantly more damage? “Practically every FPS ever made has had a mechanic that encourages and rewards headshots,” responded one angry Black Ops 6 player on Reddit.
Another player stated: “Treyarch loves having a headshot mechanic that is useless for anything other than snipers. Absolute rubbish game design. Headshot should work exactly like it did in the old Modern Warfare games.”
The low damage bonus value for headshots is enough to frustrate players, but things don’t end there. Players also argue that it makes camouflage more difficult, as getting 100 headshots is the first step for each weapon.
“I understand that they want to make TTK more ‘consistent’ in multiplayer, but if you want us to do headshots for camouflage’s sake, then those headshots better be useful,” said another player.
What May Change in Future Updates?
Treyarch has noted this issue in the past and explained the reasons behind reducing the effect of headshots in Black Ops 6. The main reason is that they want consistent TTK in every fight. Treyarch even tried to address this issue in a Steam post after the beta, which saw them continue the inclusion of consecutive headshot multipliers in Black Ops 6.
But this is still not enough to satisfy the players as they feel they are not getting enough rewards for their accurate shots. Whether Treyarch will take other steps to address this issue remains to be seen. Players just need to be patient and wait for further adjustments in future updates.
