Apex Legends Player Count Hits All-Time Low

Apex Legends has dropped to its lowest average number of players in a month for the first time since 2021 as the player base plummeted to around 94,000. Even though Respawn continues to add new content, players are no longer satisfied with the game’s current state, and many have mixed feelings about it. While every player has their own reasons for leaving Apex Legends, it all comes down to a few things.

Why Players Are Leaving Apex Legends

Despite its status as one of the premier battle royale games, many players have the same sentiments and reasons for leaving the game. Here are the main reasons why Apex Legends is underperforming:

Game becomes too Grindy

EA has made many changes to the battlepass and challenges, making them take longer for players to complete. Additionally, the developer recently updated the weekly challenges you can complete, down from five to four. Many players also complain that dailies now feel like a chore more than anything. For many people, Apex Legends is a game that they want to enjoy casually, so they may not have much time in their lives to spend on daily tasks just to understand the essence of the game.

Too Much Monetization

Many players have noticed that recent events have focused more on purchasable cosmetics than event challenge rewards. Previously, these events would provide valid prizes such as Apex Packs and rare skins. Unfortunately, most of those rewards have now been removed from the challenges, and instead, more emphasis is being placed on the skins and other cosmetics you can purchase during time-limited events. The blatant cash grab promoted by the game has left many players disillusioned, contributing to the sudden decline in the player base.

Unbalanced Matchmaking

Apex Legends used to cater to both hardcore and casual players, but unresolved and unbalanced matchmaking has led to a decline in interest among those players. Casual gamers who rarely play competitive matches will often queue with players with high elo, making the gaming experience less enjoyable. Many people say that they don’t find Apex Legends interesting anymore because they spend their limited free time just dunking by Sweat Predator and Masters. This problem significantly causes many casual players to abandon more casual and simple games.

Removal of Certain Content and Slow Updates

Although Apex Legends introduced Revival and Quad Squad modes, eliminating the Duo queue has put off many players. Duos has become a preferred game mode for many people, as they can jump in and play with their friends. Their removal causes them to queue with random teammates with potentially unpleasant personalities, further degrading the gaming experience. Apart from removing the popular Duo Mode, the gradual addition of new content does nothing to relieve players’ boredom. We barely get any new map or Legend updates every year, and some of the more popular changes don’t keep up with the much bigger and more insufferable features.

Fraud that Continues to Be Rampant

The most obvious reason why people leave Apex Legends is because of unresolved cheating in the game. Hackers plague unranked and Competitive games, and gamers suffer from numerous encounters. Many players have shared their experiences of encountering cheaters in consecutive matches, which can turn off their appetite for playing the game. This problem has been going on for a long time, but EA has yet to come up with a solid, long-lasting solution. Without a solution, many players lose confidence in the game and end up moving on to other games.

Apex Legends is still one of the best BR games

Despite a massive decline in the number of players, Apex Legends remains one of the best BR games in its genre. The game itself, while amazing, is still disliked by players because of the way it is managed, developed and moderated. Other titles that tried to make a name for themselves in the genre, such as Concord, failed due to their inability to introduce anything new that wasn’t F2P. Despite all this, Apex Legends remains a popular choice due to its F2P aspect.
